NET (Neuro-emotional Therapy)
What is NET?
Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a technique that combines gentle Chiropractic adjustments and Chinese Medicine theory. It is a stress reduction technique that assesses & corrects imbalances related to the physiology of stress.
In Chinese Medicine the patient's emotional state is considered to be one of the causes of dysfunction in the body.
Neuro Emotional Therapy works by addressing the physiology of the emotional response. The associated vertebral biomechanical joint dysfunction (known as subluxations in chiropractic care), and points on the body related to emotions and meridians in Chinese Medicine are utilised to clear emotional blockages and resolve lingering trauma in the body.
How does Chiropractic relate to emotions and can it help regulate them?
In simple terms, a chiropractic adjustment helps to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system which is the rest and digest part of the nervous system. The adjustment of the spine, in turn, helps to release muscle spasm and so the stress that has been held in the body from emotional stress can release.
We can also use muscle testing to check for an emotional link. For example in Chinese Medicine the lung organ and meridian is related to grief and these are linked to the chiropractic adjustment through the vertebrae in the thoracic and higher lumbar areas. So if there is an issue with grief, we can adjust the specific vertebrae while the patient breathes in and out thinking of the issue that caused the grief.
We can also link an emotion to physical pain in the body and release the tension created by it in a similar way.
How are emotions stored in the body?
Generally as tension in muscles and inflammation in joints and connective tissue.
How might stored emotions show up physically?
In Chinese Medicine this can be related to any disease process, because emotions are thought of as a causative factor for disease. There is research that documents this in Western Medicine now, for example, emotional states leading to early heart attacks.
